Lori Hawkins

Assistant Coach

Girls Varsity Track

Raised in a large family, consisting of five brothers and two sisters, I have experienced many challenges.  Both parents had to work to support the household. We were raised in a low to middle income status, which meant items of interest were few.

Schooling was not always stable due to my father having to move to obtain a better position.  I have attended various schools throughout my childhood life. These changes required that I adjust to new environments and new friendships.  This has helped me in dealing with others who are experiencing similar changes, requiring adjustments.

My interest in athletics, was a result of an injury, at the elementary level, which required running as therapy.  This opened opportunities such as competition in the National Jr. Olympics, Forenigh Exchange Runner in Singapore, Malaysia and traveled throughout the United States.  These experiences enhance my interpersonal skills dealing with various athletic agencies and to some extent local media. I pursued distance running throughout my school years required setting personal goals and strict work ethics.  After completing high school education, I continued my athletics participation throughout college. Expanding my background included running marathons, coaching high school cross country and track & Field. I am currently teaching Physical Education at Rock Creek Elementary and Antelope Creek Elementary.  I had coached a young team at this level to compete in local Cross Country races.

How long have I been coaching? I began my coaching experience at Mira Loma HS 1993.  I have coached various high schools within the years. I had a great experience as an assistant coach at Sacramento State University.  I then began teaching in Rocklin and started coaching cross country at the elementary level. I have been coaching at Whitney High School  since 2012 starting with Track & Field.

What influenced me to become a coach? My success in running happened with great coaches at my high school and college years.  I wanted to reach out to other athletes and share my knowledge and experience to guide them to success as well.

Do you have any hobbies that you do when you are not coaching? If I am not running, I am spending time with my family.  We love to hunt, fish, and go camping. I love to surf behind a boat, wake boarding, and time in my canoe.   I also like to gold pan in the Rivers.
